If you're looking for the chance to catch a few waves during your stay on Phuket Island, there are two things to keep in mind: 1.) the best surfing is found on the west coast, and 2.) the most popular surfing beach on the west coast is Kata. As you can probably guess, this can be both a good and a bad thing since the availability of good riding means competition with lots of other travelers. Still, crowds aside, Kata Beach provides easy access to board rentals, consistent waves of about 2 meters (6.5 feet) and, as of 2013, a surf-simulator at the Phuket Surf House.
Not satisfied? Well, luckily for you there are a few other destinations on the island that provide more challenging swells and, consequently, fewer boarders. To the north in particular, Surin Beach offers some great rides that experienced surfers will want to investigate. Check out our links for more info.
