We’ll meet at the parking lot to the Green Lakes State Park golf course, and then head down to the parking lot where the walking path starts after paying entrance. Once we’re all there, I will lead the group on a pretty easy 2+ hour hike around both Green Lake and its smaller subsidiary, Round Lake. The 3.8 mile trail encircles both lakes and provides some stellar views of the aquamarine water fringed by a variety of coniferous and deciduous trees. About a half a mile into the hike, we’ll stop at a unique geological formation known locally as “The Point” for an optional swim. Along the way, we’ll talk about the lakes’ glacial beginnings, why the water is actually green and even share some personal stories about my time working there. Once we’ve completed the hike, depending on the temperature and weather, we can take a swim in the condoned swimming area or enjoy some recreational time on the beach. Midsummer is great if you’re looking to end with a swim, while the fall foliage in October is incredible and you don’t have to pay a fee for park entrance.
