  • Day 1
At 9am we pick you up from your accommodation in Chiang Mai and take you to the heart of Mae Wang. We ride through villages, past fruit farms, rice paddies, crops and waterways. It depends on the season but you may get the chance to stop and help with planting or harvesting crops too! After a two hour ride we stop for lunch. We then trek to a tropical waterfall before heading to your accommodation, Spicy Villa Eco Lodge. Admire the scenery before learning how to prepare and cook traditional Lanna dishes.
  • Day 2
Rise early and catch the mists lifting below in the valleys. After breakfast we walk to the rice paddies where you learn about traditional farming. Come prepared; this is a hands on cultural experience and depending on the season you learn about preparing the fields, maintaining water levels, planting, harvesting, drying or milling the rice. Enjoy lunch before trekking to a waterfall and Karen tribe village. As guests of the Karen people, we stay here for the night at a homestay. This is a unique opportunity to learn about this ethnic minority's way of life.
  • Day 3
Today we visit the local school – the children love practicing their English! After, we trek back to Spicy Villa where you can chill out and enjoy more delicious food before we visit an elephant camp. Live the life of a mahout from the back of an elephant, and cool off in the river as you bathe these gentle giants. This evening is another cooking lesson and a night at Spicy Villa.
  • Day 4
Today you learn about traditional Karen tribe building techniques. We gather our materials to weave a traditional Karen roof using leaves or make bamboo walls for Karen hill tribe huts. You may even learn how to weave a traditional basket. After lunch a Karen tribe lady will teach you traditional weaving techniques using wooden hand looms and hand dyed cotton string. Tonight's dinner is prepared with, and from, bamboo. We use bamboo stems instead of pans to cook our dishes over an open fire giving you another fascinating insight into the traditional Karen hill tribe way of life. Tonight's accommodation is Spicy Villa.
  • Day 5
After an early breakfast your cultural experience continues with a trip to a temple to give alms to the monks and make merit. Afterwards we visit the local mixed minority school. For the kids this is an opportunity to practice their English – something that can greatly improve their futures. We return to Spicy Villa for lunch before bamboo rafting our way down river before heading back to Chiang Mai.
