This trip is all about connecting with Nature. As your host, I will plan the trip, but I want YOU to fully experience the region. That means detours, extensions, changes, omissions, and suggestions are always welcome. At 5,946 feet high, Grandfather Mountain is nestled in the beautiful landscape of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and is host to the majestic Mile High Bridge. The Mountain has 11 trails that vary in difficulty from a gentle walk in the woods to a rigorous trek across rugged peaks. We will be hiking more of the latter. Embarking on a 12-mile round-trip hike, this tour is not for the meek. Your body will be tested and your feet will hurt by the end, but your mind will be at peace. For more information about the area, visit the following websites... GRANDFATHER MOUNTAIN -; MILE HIGH SWINGING BRIDGE - I'M EXCITED TO BEGIN OUR JOURNEY!
I am available to host this tour on weekends; Saturday-Sunday is best. However, if you need to schedule a weekday tour, please let me know; I'll do my best to accommodate.
I have been exploring Western North Carolina for the past four years. I've hiked the entire Grandfather Trail a few times and I've done several tours in the region. For the past two years, I've hiked two different 50-mile sections of the Appalachian Trail, ranging from Virginia to Tennessee, and staying in the wilderness for up to four days.
Please provide your own camping gear, hiking gear, and appropriate clothing. I am happy to assist in carrying gear, but I don't have a lot of extra gear to provide for guests.
Full refund 2 days prior to tour.
Negotiable - I live 3 hours away, so I'm open to the needs of guests.
  • Day 1
We will hike about 4 miles the first day, starting at the Profile Trailhead in Banner Elk, NC, then camping along the Grandfather Trail. This is the easier section of the tour, and is an excellent opportunity to catch some sunsets that would make Ansel Adams jealous.
  • Day 2
The second day will be more strenuous, with an 8-mile hike to complete the tour's circuit. We will hike to the Mile High Bridge on this day, braving rope ladders and substantial elevation changes. Visiting the Bridge will provide a nice break for sight-seeing and photo opportunities. When we arrive back at the Profile Trailhead (on the evening of the second day), we will reflect on our journey and celebrate with a picnic and some delicious local brews.
