This tour is named for the Panchoy Valley, just to the west of Antigua, which was home of the 2nd capital of Guatemala, Ciudad Vieja. The old city met a fateful doom in 1541 as a result of a terrible mudslide released from the crater of the Volcan de Agua. The city disappeared in the valley between Agua, Fuego & Acatenango volcanoes and the exact site of the old city is the source of much debate.

OTO is an incredible, well organized company. I was able to book my tour with them months in advance. I was originally supposed to do a volcano hike with them but decided at the last minute it was not for me. I wanted to switch to do a bike tour at the last minute and they were more than accommodating. The bike tour was engaging enough to keep all riders interested for the duration of the 4-hour ride with its highlight being a stop at a macadamia nut farm.
