Dog Mountain rises above the north side of the Columbia River Gorge with excellent views of the Washington side of the Gorge. The base of the mountain is in Skamania County, about 9 miles east of the town of Stevenson and about an hour drive from downtown Portland.
This hike is not for the faint of heart; 6.9 miles round trip and steep pretty much the whole way up! The trail winds through heavy forest to meadows with an epic overlook of the gorge. With a 2,800 ft elevation gain this hike with get your heart pumping. Late spring and Early summer are the best times to do this hike because of all the beautiful wildflowers blooming.
