Dog Mountain rises above the north side of the Columbia River Gorge with excellent views of the Washington side of the Gorge. The base of the mountain is in Skamania County, about 9 miles east of the town of Stevenson and about an hour drive from downtown Portland. This hike is not for the faint of heart; 6.9 miles round trip and steep pretty much the whole way up! The trail winds through heavy forest to meadows with an epic overlook of the gorge. With a 2,800 ft elevation gain this hike with get your heart pumping. Late spring and Early summer are the best times to do this hike because of all the beautiful wildflowers blooming.

Portland, OR or Trailhead
  • Day 1
We can meet you in Portland or at the Trailhead but a Northwest Forest Pass is required to park at the trailhead and we only have one. We will provide a light snack for everyone when we reach the summit but everyone is required to bring their own water. Expect this hike to take around 3 hours total. Good hiking boots are a must and this hike is not recommended for people with knee problems as it is pretty steep on the way down. After the hike we can sit on the patio at Walking Man Brewery in Stevenson for some rewarding beers and pizza!
