Explore Doodletown, the abandoned hamlet near Bear Mountain State Park. Discover the history, mines and homesites of the old town. This was the last parcel of Harriman State Park to be added and the town was seized by eminent domain, forcing residents to either sell out or face eviction. There are two iron mines, foundations, cemeteries, some standing ruins and a few other signs of the old town's past to find.
Year round, 1 weeks notice is required.
I've been leading hikes through Doodletown for many years. My book "Hiking the Road to Ruins" features it as a chapter.
Participants will need to sign a standard waiver of liability before we begin. No public transportation is available to get to the start point.
Full refund 2 days prior to tour.
Hikers parking area on Route 9W, about 1.4 miles south of the Bear Mountain Bridge, just north of the road into Iona Island.
