Gulmarg is a powder seekers paradise in Kashmir, in northern India. It has one of the world's highest gondolas that gives access to a massive mountain that receives more than 45ft of snow annually. A busy day in Gulmarg is maybe 200 to 300 people. If you know where to go, you can always find untouched snow in Gulmarg. The Adventure Project operates 2 week sessions for expert skiers and boarders. We take care of all of the details for you and make it very easy to get to Gulmarg. We focus on guiding small groups of people (max 6 people) with 2 guides per group. We offer comprehensive avalanche safety training and guests can also receive feedback on their skiing and boarding technique. We finish our 2 week sessions with a night on the houseboats on Dal Lake (where the Beatles used to hang out in the 1970's), the perfect way to unwind and reflect. This will be a opportunity for the adventurous-minded skier or boarder to experience a unique trip to an unexplored corner of the world. The local Kashmiri's are some of the most hospitable people in the world and the quality of the snow and the terrain of Gulmarg is amazing. A trip to the Himalaya's with The Adventure Project will change your life....... in a good way!
Price based at twin-share at the Khyber Himalayan Resort and Spa, a 5 star resort near the base of the Gulmarg gondola. Other share options/hotels/prices exist. Dates are as follows: Session 1: Sunday 31st January - Sunday 14th February 2016. Session 2: Sunday 14th February – Sunday 28th February 2016. Session 3: Sunday 28th February – Sunday 13th March 2016.
The Adventure Project has been running tours to Gulmarg since 2011. We know the mountain very well and have an established network of local contacts. Your safety is our number 1 concern; we operate in small groups with a maximum of 6 guests to 2 guides. We have a Western guide leading with a local Kashmiri guide at the back. We have a comprehensive avalanche safety training program that starts before you even leave for India; as soon as the snow starts falling, we send you regular updates on the snow conditions and how the snowpack is starting to shape up. You will arrive in Gulmarg already having an good understanding of the snowpack. Once you've arrived in Gulmarg, we will start your safety training. You will receive detailed instruction on beacon use, probing and strategic shoveling principles. You will become competent in single and multiple rescues. Then we go and explore the snowpack by digging multiple pits and conducting several stability tests, which we repeat as necessary.
