Hike the Bumpass Hell trail at Lassen Volcanic National Park, near Redding, California. This is the Bicentennial of the last eruption of Mount Lassen an active Volcano at the far northern reaches of the Sierra-Nevada Mountain range.
Lassen offers many trails, and sites. The Bumpass Hell trail rises above 8000' and skirts the treeline as you hike with the smell of Incense Pines in the air, and grand views of the surrounding mountains. Then the actual area comes into view like nothing you've seen before.
The Bumpass Hell area is full of active vents, fissures, boiling minerals and mud. There is a boardwalk through the middle for closer viewing.
