Boulder, Co
  • Day 1
Leave from Boulder or metropolis to Buena vista early. The drive is quite scenic and great in the mornings when clear. Stop in town of Buena Vista to see a few landmarks. There are great coffee shops, food trucks, breweries and deer hammer whiskey distillery which is my personal favorite. After filling up on groceries we can head up to chalk lake to fish for trout. Always have great luck there and can cook for lunch. A 45 min dirt road drive takes you up to ghost mining town of Hancock. This is where we will camp. It is beautiful alpine fields with great views of the milky way at night. It will be cold this time of year so layer up but the beauty makes it worth it.
  • Day 2
Wake up early hour and hike mt. huron. On way back we can stop by ghost town of winfield which stands in tact quite well. After sight seeing there is a beautiful campsite on edge of town in Buena vista which sits right on the Arkansas river. There are bars, restaurants and distilleries in town if wanting to go that route or dinner over fire as grocery store is very close. This campsite has views of the collegiate peaks as well as great stars. Following morning we head back!
