We begin the trip with an easy five mile hike with spectacular views of crashing falls and pools with fresh mist and the sound of thundering water filling the air. We make camp along the Creek under towering pine and hemlocks where we relax for the evening. The next two days we have our choice of dayhikes depending on the mood and desires of the group. We learn basic backpacking technique and gear selection. The goal is to relax and to develop individual self sufficiency and ease of being outdoors in all different climate conditions.
Topics we will cover in instructional sessions:
dressing for the weather
how to fit and pack the pack
map reading and navigation technique
tent/tarp philosophy and technique
how to relax and connect with nature
personal hygiene using no trace philosophy
