Dog Mountain is a staple of the Columbia River Gorge hiking scene, and for good reason. Located on the Washington side of the river, the views here are breathtaking, including such notable Cascades as Mt. Hood and Mt. Saint Helens. The flora isn't anything to scoff at either, particularly if you're hiking in late spring to see the stunning display of wildflowers that grow here. There are two trails: and older and a newer. Depending on your energy level, you can tackle the steeper former trail or the more moderate latter, and vary trails on the way back to make for a fresh experience the entire way. All told, Dog Mountain is a 7 mile trek that treats you to some of the best views the Columbia River Gorge has to offer.
Most weekdays and some weekends. Check availability in advance.
Personally, I have hiked up this mountain several times in various weather conditions and seasons.
