My husband and I had the pleasure of visiting one of Tunisia's greatest treasures, Chimtou. Located about 20km from Jendouba in the north east of Tunisia, Chimtou was once a bustling Roman city and was known as Simitthu (or Simitthus in Roman period). If you are not familiar with the Romans they were totally and completely committed to opulence and were all about forging their way through any land that held their precious marble which they used to build their magnificent cities. This site was discovered in the late 19th century by Tunisian and German Archaeologists and is still to this day being excavated. We were given a personal tour of the site which was, for me, extremely mind blowing as a huge archaeology freak! They have pieces of columns and mosaics all over the place it is just full of incredible history and it is a site not to be missed if you are traveling to the region or are a lover of Roman Culture!
