Karakaya is the type of adventure destination that Embark travelers like because it accomplishes two things really well: it is well developed in regards to its target activity and it's off the beaten path enough so that there still aren't backpacker hostels or overpriced facilities clamoring for your hard-earned cash. That target activity is rock climbing (with some bouldering thrown in), and with nearly a hundred bolted routes at this point there is plenty to keep the camping area in the trees busy on the weekend. There are also difficulties that range from 4a to 8a, so everyone from novices to seasoned flash climbers will find something to challenge them.
Located an hour and a half from Ankara on the road to Eskişehir, it can actually be a bit of trouble to reach if you don't have a car. If you are taking a bus, you can ask to be dropped off as soon as you recognize the granite monolith in the distance near the town of Kaymaz; it'll be a half an hour of walking from there. Then again, once you reach the crags, your only thoughts will be how to find your way up this rock climber's dream.
